Existing articles have exhausted my slim knowledge of our company, its history, and its workings. Intended as photo essays, those memorable images demanded at least some annotation and context, for which I could manage little more than anecdotes and assorted snippets, much of dubious value. They focus primarily on the technical side of the station - studio and outside broadcast, because that comprised the bulk of available photographic archives.
To complement these already published, you might write an essay that explains the workings of a mysteriously named "Traffic" or "Promotions" department. Sales could describe the workings of their profession that shows how advertising is the lifeblood of both local media and the business community. No section of our TV station was lesser than another, size notwithstanding. Lacking any of us, nothing would be aired.
The newsroom would surely have a vast amount of unpublished material to highlight NBN's role in the community or within the industry. It might be an exhaustive account of the last sixty years, or a personal perspective, perhaps as a memoir. Oldtimers will recall waves of technology, from typewriters and teletypes, through the greenscreen terminals of Basys, to the PC-based AAP system. News has so many aspects that it alone could fill a website. News camera staff will each have a bevvy of great stories, but if you haven't already, a must-read (and primer) is Barry Nancarrow's online book.
Articles have no restrictions in length. A byline is optional, your choice. Your photographs are not only welcome, but are likely to be crucial to your topic. Many of us have large personal collections that would ideally live on this website in perpetuity, rather than eventually die in a box on a shelf. Quality and size (and scanning) will be discussed. Our archive could well contain material to illustrate your article, too.
Regards to all.
