Singleton Council’s Australia Day Committee announced Colonel Iain Andrew Cruickshank, CSC, DSM is Singleton’s Australia Day Guest.
Col. Cruickshank will share his story to residents at the Civic Ceremony on Australia Day.
Iain Cruickshank attended Singleton High School from 1974 to 1976, when his father was posted to the Infantry Centre. He graduated from the Officer Cadet School Portsea in June 1979 into the Infantry.
His career in the military has seen the Colonel posted all over Australia, with deployments overseas including Iraq, Israel, Lebanon, Malaysia, and Afghanistan.
His operational service includes overseas deployments to:
The Rifle Company Butterworth Malaysia in 1980;
Israel, Lebanon and the Golan Heights as an UN Observer in 1989/90;
The International Force East Timor, on General Cosgrove’s Headquarters 1999/2000;
Iraq as Commander of the first Australian Army Training Team in Northern Iraq 2004;
Afghanistan in 2011; and
Iraq again as the Senior Military Advisor to the Special Representative to the Secretary General United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq from July 2012 to July 2013.
Col. Cruickshank remains as an Army Reservist, having just completed 41 years of service, and is the Director of Knowledge Management Solutions for Development and Senior Industry Fellow (Defence) at RMIT, Melbourne.
Mayor of Singleton, Cr Sue Moore, said she was delighted that Col. Cruickshank was volunteering his time for the celebration.
