Dream Cruises™ Explorer Dream will sail into Port of Newcastle on tomorrow morning (28 October 2019) on its maiden visit to the region.
Relaunched earlier this year after an extensive refit, the 268-metre Explorer Dream carries 2800 passengers.
Its visit to Port of Newcastle is the first of six to the region between now and December.
Port of Newcastle will receive 15 cruise ships over the 2019-20 cruise season, including three maiden voyages, with an anticipated record 30,000 cruise passengers.
Following maritime tradition, Port of Newcastle and the Captain of Explorer Dream will exchange a commemorative plaque on the ship’s bridge to mark the maiden voyage. The Captain will then assist in a cannon fire at Fort Scratchley in the afternoon before departing.
In their blue shirts and white hats, Newcastle Cruise Volunteers will be on hand to welcome cruise passengers. The team of 38 dedicated volunteers share their love of Newcastle and expert local advice to ensure passengers get the most out of their time in the city.
The Port has this year invested a further $250,000 in upgrades to its Channel Berth infrastructure.
Explorer Dream is expected at Channel Berth at approximately 8am and depart the port at around 5pm. To view the 2019-20 cruise schedule please visit Port of Newcastle’s website www.portofnewcastle.com.au
