The Future of Morisset Showground

A Plan of Management for Morisset Showground is being developed on the future of the community space.

The plan will be formed through community consultation for a better understanding of the issues and opportunities at the historic site.

The Morisset showground has been a much-loved facility since 1936,” said Brandan Callander, Manager Assets Management, Lake Macquarie City Council.

The space hosts a diverse range of activities including the annual Morisset show, equestrian events, dog shows, monthly markets and short-term camping and caravan stays.

Input we receive will enhance the Showground’s features and inform new ways it can be used and enjoyed by the community.”

Lake Macquarie Mayor Cr Kay Fraser said feedback was essential to help inform the draft plans and build on the site’s strengths, including its history, location, and unique role as the only showground in Lake Macquarie,” Cr Fraser said.

In May 2019, Council was appointed Crown Land Manager of the Crown Reserve. The adjoining community land, which contains a multipurpose centre and surrounding bushland forms the broader site and will be considered as part of the planning process.

Feedback can be provided online at where visitors can complete a short survey and provide comments via an interactive map.

Council will host drop-in sessions at Morisset Showground on Wednesday 14 October between 4-7pm and Thursday 15 October between 10am-12noon and at Morisset Library on Thursday 15 October between 7-9am.

Consultation for the Master Plan and Plan of Management is open until Monday 2 November.
