Singleton Surveys Direct Council Support

Residents and businesses encouraged to help inform community needs in Council’s response to COVID-19.

Singleton residents and businesses can take separate online surveys so council can understand how they are each affected.

The feedback will help in how to use Singleton Council’s Community Support Package.

The separate household and business surveys will help Council understand the local socio-economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic for each group.

A more comprehensive study will be undertaken in the near future.

General Manager Jason Linnane said the surveys were a vital tool to ensure assistance went where it was most needed.

The Community Support Package includes $500,000 for economic and community programs to reduce the impacts on residents and businesses in the Singleton local government area (LGA) in the short-term, while also paving the way for socio-economic recovery in the aftermath of the crisis.

We are taking every possible step to provide relief for our community where we can during these challenging times, and without a precedent to follow, and because of the constant changes that characterise the COVID-19 situation, it can be difficult to know which course of action to take,” Mr Linnane said.

That’s why our Community Support Package is based on what is the right thing to do for our residents and businesses.

Council has partnered with the Singleton Business Chamber and the Singleton Interagency respectively to produce the surveys, which are an important first stage in an ongoing conversation as to how Council can best support its community.

The results will go a long way in assisting us in measuring the impact of COVID-19 on the Singleton community, and to better understand the needs of households and local businesses now and as we rebuild into the future.

Both the household and business surveys open on Monday 11 May 2020 and run until Sunday 24 May 2020. The surveys are available online by visiting Council’s website at www.singleton.nsw.gov.au or Council’s Facebook page.

Mr Linnane said the outcomes of the first stage survey would also support further advocacy efforts to State and Federal governments.

While we are fortunate to be in a position to amp up the actions we can take at a local government level, we will also need assistance from other levels of government to fully address the needs of our community.

We will continue to advocate for more funding through State and Federal grant funding opportunities to further grow our Support Package, and ensure Singleton is not forgotten in the recovery from the impacts of COVID-19.”
