The Bitter & Twisted Boutique Beer Festival at Maitland Gaol is cancelled.
The festival that features craft beers, music, food, and home-brew classes, was to be held on the 7th and 8th of November this year.
Announcing the cancellation, Maitland City Council said it had been monitoring advice from the Federal and State Governments for any change to public health orders.
Council had delayed the decision to proceed, hoping restrictions might ease. However, given the complex planning required to deliver such an event, a decision had to be made by mid-August.
COVID-19 has not been kind to the events industry and Bitter & Twisted 2020 is no exception,” said Coordinator Events, Adam Franks.
In the interest of our community’s health and wellbeing, the decision to cancel Bitter & Twisted was a difficult, but ultimately necessary one.”
Maitland City Council said it understood the affect this decision will have on a business community already hurting and that benefits from events like Bitter & Twisted.
People out there in the community who appreciate quality craft beer and wine can help reduce the impact of the event’s cancellation on businesses by supporting microbreweries, craft beer venues and cellar door’s, particularly those located in the Hunter,” said a council spokesman.
At this stage, event planning for New Year’s Eve Celebrations are moving ahead, however Maitland City Council will continue to monitor the situation and will follow advice from the Federal and State Governments, including any variation or modification of the State public health orders. “
