Call for artists to add colour to the City.

Local artists will have the opportunity to add vibrancy to streetscapes across Lake Macquarie City, with expressions of interest to participate in the Lake Macquarie traffic signal art project now open.

Acting Manager Arts, Culture and Tourism, Jo Smith, said public art contributes to Lake Macquarie City’s attractiveness as a place to live, work and visit.

This is a great opportunity for local artists to think outside the box, get creative and share their ideas to help beautify some of the intersections in Lake Macquarie City,” Ms Smith said.

The project gives local artists a chance to get their art on the streets, while making a valuable contribution to their community.”

Artists are invited to submit their designs for traffic signal boxes located at Belmont, Valentine, Warners Bay, Cardiff and Windale that reflect the culture of the area.

Artists are required to submit full colour designs for each visible side of the box. In selecting the final designs, the judging panel will look at vibrancy, community appeal and connection to the location. Council recommends visiting the signal box you would like to paint for inspiration.

Applications close Tuesday 30 April. Successful artists will be notified in early May and will receive $500 to complete the artwork.
