On Growing Lake City’s Cultural Collections

Join a new Cultural Collections Consultative Committee.

Members will work with Council’s curators selecting and commissioning new public art commissions and museum archive collections in Lake Macquarie.

Council’s Manager Arts, Culture and Tourism Jacqui Hemsley said all you need to join is an interest in art and cultural collections.

Lake Macquarie is a vibrant and creative City, and through this Committee, we will engage with members of the community who can share their experience in visual arts and museum collections.”

The Committee will be formed through an expression of interest process. Members will be selected for their knowledge on acquisitions, loans and deaccessions, as well as being able to advise on visual arts and urban and public art.

The Committee will consist of 13 members:
· four community members
· two industry representatives
· two Councillor representatives
· one representative of the Aboriginal Reference Group
· the Manager, Arts Culture and Tourism or their delegate
· three delegated officers representing MAC’s five cultural collections.

We want the Committee to be a place of collaboration between experts in the community and Council,” Ms Hemsley said.

In order to make our art collections more accessible and to have them be valuable, we need to make sure we are utilising our City’s industry professionals.”

Committee meetings will run for two hours and will occur on a bi-monthly basis.

Expressions of interest close on Monday 26 October 2020. Visit lakemac.com.au to apply.
